Hello,I’m Raf

My name is Raphaël Méchet, but people call me Raf. I live in Besançon, and I’ve been making images for about thirty years. Graphic designer, motion designer, art director, filmmaker… I’ve used several job titles without really finding one that covers everything.
I got my hands on a computer at a very young age, then a guitar. I also grew up with television, adverts and MTV. Music videos already brought together quite a few things I was interested in: music, images, graphic design and editing. All of that eventually found its way into what I do.
I’ve played in several bands, somewhere between indie rock and electro. Music is still an important part of my life. I also share some in the mixtapes, for anyone who feels like listening.
For work, I’m freelance, collaborating with agencies, studios and production teams in France and elsewhere. I bring the experience and sensibility I’ve built over time, both of which keep evolving through what I discover and the projects I work on. That might mean looking for an idea, developing a direction or moving into production, taking a project from start to finish or joining a team along the way.
I also use AI a lot now, for research, images and production. I do quite a few experiments with these tools. Some are used in projects; others remain experiments. I show a few of them on this site.
The portfolio brings together a selection of work. Think explains in more detail how we can work together.
And then there’s the blog. I post work in progress, tests, music, things I’ve come across and want to share. It’s also a way to show what happens between finished projects.
