THE PROJECT

Bring cultureonto the field of play.

For the Paris 2024 Sport Presentation programme, I developed creative research connecting French culture with the experience of watching sport. The work explored how painting, sculpture, architecture and music could shape the atmosphere inside a competition venue.

My contribution covered visual direction, image research, treatments, storyboards and graphic tests. Working with the Sport Presentation team, I turned broad ideas into sequences that could be discussed, tested and developed for screens and projection surfaces.

This selection brings together studies made between 2022 and 2024. The boards and visualisations document the development process; they are presented as concepts and tests.

01 / VISUAL RESEARCH

Find a sharedvisual language.

Early research looked for structures shared by sport and culture: the curve of an arch, a line of action, a balanced composition or the repetition of a gesture. Parisian architecture, artworks and movement studies provided material for those connections.

These reference boards helped establish ways of framing images and moving between them. They bring together existing imagery as working references.

02 / SCENOGRAPHY TESTS

From sculptureto performance.

The Degas studies explore the passage from a sculpted dancer to a living performance. A music-box mechanism, projected patterns and concentrated light turn the gymnastics floor into a stage.

Wide views test the relationship between the image and the venue. Closer views establish the character and material of the dancer. The later March 2024 treatment develops another variation using mirrors, repetition and optical animation devices.

03 / CONCEPT DOSSIERS

Nine directions.One shared brief.

In March 2024, I developed nine treatments combining scenarios, visual references, palettes, music research and display considerations. Each proposes a different way to connect art and sport, from Monet’s water lilies to geometric abstraction.

Selected boards from these presentations show the visual research behind the treatments. They combine reference images to explore a palette, a rhythm and a possible direction for each sequence.

04 / SCREEN & SPACE

Think beyondthe frame.

The studies also consider where an image will be seen: a pool, a competition floor or a wide screen. Display diagrams and geometric tests explore how the same idea could occupy those different surfaces.

The complete set of nine treatments also includes Toulouse-Lautrec, Street Art and Olympic Artistry.
