Orosei, October

I haven’t shared much here lately. We spent a week on a family holiday in Orosei, Sardinia. Beautiful scenery, and the island is really quiet at this time of year. It was good.

We also went to the MAN in Nuoro for Futurama. Nostalgia di futuro, which we loved. It’s about how people imagined the future in the last century, with space exploration, robots and the rather appealing idea that machines would do our work for us.

It mixes art, design, fashion and science fiction, from Japanese toy robots to the covers of the Urania book series. I really like that whole world and the way it shaped the objects, clothes and other stuff we were meant to have in the future.

And it’s always nice to see work by artists I’ve come across through my work with Christie’s, like Lucio Fontana. A bit like running into familiar faces on holiday.

Exhibition visual: MAN.

At the same museum, there was also Attraverso by Paolo Cavinato, part of Hall of Mirrors. An installation you walk into, with mirrors and perspective tricks that make you lose your bearings. The space seems to stretch, your reflection disappears. There’s sound by Stefano Trevisi too.

It’s pretty disorienting. You know there’s a trick, but your eyes keep falling for it. I like it when an artwork can do that.

The artist’s photos of the installation give you an idea.

A few more photos from our walks, including some old shoes that have figured out what to do with their retirement.
