ARCHITECTURAL PROJECTION / AVIGNON / 2018 · 06:10

The project film combines footage of the projection with the façade visualisation. Original music and sound design by Studio Cléophas.

THE PROJECT

A momentto slow down

Six minutes to slow down. For Festival Hélios in Avignon, I directed Filaments, an architectural projection that transformed the façade of the Célestins church into a succession of imagined landscapes.

I developed the visual treatment, storyboard and animatic, then produced the animation and final projection files. The intention was a moment of calm after the heat of the day: a journey through light, water, living forms and shifting architecture.

01 / IMAGE & ARCHITECTURE

The façadeas a landscape

The building gives the images their structure. Arches open onto impossible interiors, stone blocks move out of place and a monumental clock takes over the façade. Forests and underwater life bring a different scale and pace before warm lightbulbs fill the space.

Each scene follows the lines of the architecture, using its openings, depth and asymmetry to shape the movement. The four façade visualisations below show the image design prepared for projection.

02 / MUSICAL DIRECTION

Composedtogether

I also directed the musical approach in close collaboration with Studio Cléophas. Yann and Guilhem Cléophas composed the original music and created the sound design, with Yann overseeing the audio production.

My direction covered the melodic atmosphere, underwater filtering, the opening of the bass between scenes, and the place of sound effects — rain, wood and stone — within the music. I then adjusted the animation timing to the score’s rhythm and phrasing.

03 / PROJECTION

From imageto building

The final sequence was prepared as seven projection outputs, with a separate soundtrack and façade mask, alongside the waiting loop and credits. JPB Audiovisuel handled the technical delivery for the festival.
